Elvis Costello continues to be one of the hardest working musicians around and was in the midst of preparing for a European tour when his doctor called. According to Costello, he said "You should start playing the lotto" since he found an aggressive malignant cancer that, fortunately, could be removed with a single surgery.

Unfortunately, Costello is still recovering from that surgery. Today he had to inform his fans across Europe that he would be unable to take on the physical demands of the road. He played the first four shows but could tell that he was not ready to resume the load of 90 to 120 minute performances. The remainder of the tour was scheduled to run through July 16th.

Good news does come from this announcement. First, Costello is doing fine, he just needed longer to recover from the surgery. Second, the US tour kicking off on November 2nd is unaffected, including his November 28th and 29th concerts at House Of Blues Anaheim and The Wiltern, respectively. Finally, he shared this little tidbit:

To leave you with some more optimistic news, The Imposters and I - together with several of our other friends - have made a magnificent new record of which we are truly proud. It will be issued in October, I believe.

We're excited for him to get back on the road and are wishing him a quick and successful recovery!
