At The SoCal Sound, we recognize the importance of privacy to visitors of our web site. This privacy policy explains what type of information is collected from you when you visit our Web site and how this information is used.
The Gathering of Information
The SoCal Sound collects personally–identifying information (name, address, telephone number, e–mail address and/or credit card information) from the The SoCal Sound Website only if you choose to provide such information to the radio station. The SoCal Sound asks our Web site visitors to provide certain personal information when they become active contributing members of the radio station online at TheSoCalSound.org.
Like all other Web servers, The SoCal Sound's Web server automatically creates log files for each visitor who accesses our site. These “access logs” do not record a visitor’s name, address, phone number, credit card numbers, or any other personally–identifying information. The “access logs” that are automatically created contain some or all of the following information:
The Internet Protocol Address (IP Address) of the machine which accessed our site
The actual date of the site visit
The actual time of the site visit
The path taken through our Web site
The browser being used during the visit and the path through our Web site
A list of files downloaded or viewed during the visit
The amount of time spent listening to our mp3–encoded audio streams
Any errors that might have been encountered during the visit
Cookies
The SoCal Sound uses ‘cookies’ to collect visitor information. A cookie is a list of characters that can be written to a single file on the end–user’s computer hard drive when the user visits a Web site. Only the Web site that sets the cookie can read it, and it can only be used as a record keeping device to store information that the site already contains. It is unable to read other information from the user’s hard drive.
The SoCal Sound uses cookies to track user’s activity through our Web site in order to offer interactive features that would not be possible without them, and to recall information to save the user time during return visits to our Web site. Cookies enable The SoCal Sound to remember your media player when you return to listen to our streaming audio feature. Cookies enable The SoCal Sound to monitor the amount of monthly, weekly, daily, and hourly visitors and hits to our Web site. This is an extremely important source of user information that helps The SoCal Sound determine which programs are gaining optimum listenership on the Web.
How The SoCal Sound uses your personally–identifying information
The use of personally–identifying information is limited to the following: responding to user e–mail messages; fulfillment of The SoCal Sound online membership pledges and associated premium requests, and other purposes specified at the time the personally–identifying information is gleaned. This information is not provided to outside parties at any time. It is not sold to a third–party mailing list or direct mail organization at any time. The information provided by the user is used to deliver membership–related premiums (thank–you gifts). Information gathered from visitors of The SoCal Sound’s Web site is entered into a membership data base and is only used for station membership and promotional purposes. These include renewal mailings, concert reminders, concert ticket delivery, premium delivery, and membership opportunities.
The SoCal Sound, if the need arises, may disclose personal information if required to do so by law or if it believes that such action is necessary to (a) comply with legal requests and processes, (b) protect against the pre–conceived mis–use or unauthorized use of the The SoCal Sound Web site, (c) guard the personal safety of The SoCal Sound Web site users, the general public or The SoCal Sound and its employees.
The SoCal Sound uses the information gathered by our leased Web server to determine use of the Web site, assisting in the further design of the site. The SoCal Sound might disclose to a third party that a certain number of users accessed a particular audio stream on our site, but we will not disclose any personally–identifying information that could be used to identify those users.
Security
The SoCal Sound has in place what we believe to be the appropriate physical, electronic, and managerial procedures to safeguard and secure the information we collect on our Web site. Credit card information provided to the The SoCal Sound Web site is protected against unauthorized use by 128–bit encryption and Secure Socket Layer (SSL) security features, which scramble your personal user information so that only your web browser and our Web site's server can decipher it.
