The SoCal Sound congratulates The Who’s frontman, Roger Daltrey, on becoming the latest musician to be knighted! Few voices have defined music as enduringly as Daltrey’s, and this knighthood celebrates not only his musical legacy but also his decades of charitable work. Daultry accepted the knighthood in honor of the charity he launched, the Teenage Cancer Trust’s Royal Albert Hall Concerts.Knighted by the Prince of Wales at Windsor Castle, the 81-year-old frontman is in good company.Fellow rock royalty Sir Paul McCartney, Sir Mick Jagger, Sir Elton John, and Sir Rod Stewart have all received knighthoods for their contributions to music. And let’s not forget the women who have been similarly honored: Dame Shirley Bassey, Dame Olivia Newton-John, and Dame Annie Lennox, whose music continues to inspire generations.Daultry said of the knighthood, "[It's] a dream for a kid like me."And of course, around here, there's no bigger Roger Daltrey fan than weekend DJ Gary Calamar, who even has the photo to prove it. (If you know, you know!)From all of us at The SoCal Sound, big congrats, Sir Roger! An honor well deserved.
