Funny story. The first time I saw PJ Harvey live was when she opened for the band LIVE at Jones Beach Ampitheatre on Long Island. Looking back, that was a pretty funny combo of artists to put on tour.
I had never heard of her, but to prep for the show, my musichead friend TJ made a me a mixed tape of his favorite PJ Harvey songs. I was hooked from that first growling guitar and vocal. She represents so much of what I love - a badass woman who can shred on the guitar, with vocals that can cut through concrete, but yet there's also this soft femininity about her. Very much like Shirley Manson from Garbage, PJ is standing for what she believes in and you better get out of her way.
This album "Stories From The City, Stories From The Sea" just turned 25 years old (10/23/2000). I was then living in NYC and the record just hit home. I haven't even gotten to the fact that Thom Yorke from Radiohead sings on it. lol
One of my fondest memories in life is rollerblading by myself along the Hudson River listening to this record on my discman and out of nowhere it starts pouring rain with thunder and lightening. The cool breeze and rain hitting my face. You know those moments you share all to yourself that just feel so special. No cell phone to pull out to take pictures or post anything. Just nature and one of the best records. Ever.
This week we'll relive this album with a RETRO 88-5 ALBUM DIVE on the SoCal Sound. Each weekday just after 12p PT. It's gonna be a goodie.
Until then, my pretties...
